What Does Steampunk Smell Like? #BPAL Knows.

I have no idea how I missed this, but I’m recitfying it right now and making up for it by telling you guys ;-)

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has an entire Steampunk line of perfume oils called the Phoenix Steamworks & Research Facility.

Scents include the title scent PHOENIX STEAMWORKS (Burnished gold and oiled bronze notes with Abramelin incense and sage), THE COIL (Ozone, eucalyptus and mint with purple orchid, passionflower, white ginger, and purple lotus), and THE ROBOTIC SCARAB (Polished metallic notes, glossy leather, frankincense, star anise, and thin lubricating oils)

Additionally, the prints by Julie Dillon are gorgeous. For example, the one below gives extra sensuality and depth to a scent like VIOLET RAY.

You’ll have to click through to read the description of this oil, but I’ll tell you now, I know I plan to buy myself a bottle. ::purr::

I’m already hoping that they’ll come out with some sort of gift set, maybe in a cool gear covered box? (hm? Maaaybe?)

Oh and, before you decide you’re not a Steampunk fan, BPAL also has a section for Neil Gaiman, A Picnic In Arkham, and there’s the Black Phoenix Trading Post (a personal stomping ground of mine)

There’s also an amazing article called “Comes a Steampunk” over at Basenotes that delves into the varying smells of “Steampunkery”. Definitely worth a read.

Pardon me while I delve back into my reading…

  1. I have an eensy BPAL addiction. It doesn’t help that I am really close to the lab; I try to get to their monthly open houses whenever I can. So jazzed to hear about the steampunk line!

  2. The coil is one of my all-time favorites from the lab! it’s so pleasantly cool and eucalyptus-y. Very unisex and very refreshing!

  3. Oh, man. Now I NEED The Coil. Sounds a lot like Undertow, which I utterly love. It and Szepasszony are my regular scents and I love them to bits. I am way overdue for some new BPAL. They ship to Canada, right?

  4. I loooove BPAL’s older stuff. I haven’t bought much of their newer scents, partly because I just don’t wear as much perfume as I used to, and partly because the newer stuff smells a bit more perfumey than the older oils. But Dorian is still one of my favorite scents EVER. And Lyonesse. And Bastet. And Fairy Market.

    I’ll stop now. :D

Oh yes, BPAL has some lovely stuff.
