Pardon Me While I Grump About Politics. (Updated)

Allow me to note. I don’t talk politics often and the thoughts are mine alone.  I’m disabling comments because I have no interest in trolls.

Updated.

The Onion’s Baratunde Thurston has put into words what I can never say. I think it is, in a word, amazing.

I will never know the pain this man feels. The anger. The disbelief. Not on this level. As a Jew, I understand people hating me simply because of my blood, but anti-semitism seems to remain fringe enough, unlike birtherism. That says so many things. None of which I consider positive.

Earlier today:

I have MSNBC on in the background as I work (I know, I know. ::grin:: Shush) and Keli Goff just made a statement that both explained a lot and pissed me off.

Mind you, I’m paraphrasing, but it was essentially, “We’d like to be covering other things instead of Donald Trump and the birther issues, but that’s where the readers are.”

I thought news was supposed to be about what the news was. News was about informing people about the things the needed to know, not entertaining them.

Reporters report on what readers want to read and then people assume things based off the reports?

But considering most of the normal people are out doing things like having lives and, oh I dunno, being normal, the fringe elements get to sit home and rack up pageviews and influence the news?

That’s…informative.

I mean, think about it. A sitting president just released his frakkin’ birth certificate to shut Donald Trump up. Because Trump’s nonsense was causing too much of a distraction to other news. Because the news organizations think Donald Trump IS news instead of an attention whore.

Sideshow indeed.

Meh.
