My goal for 2014. The EP Project. I’m ponderous and need feedback. ;-)

I don’t talk much about my other life because, well, it was a long time ago and far, far away.

But once upon a time, I was a professional singer in a band for two years. (well, LA pro, which means I got paid to sing but the venues were teeny and we made money from the door).

Singing is something I do well, and I love it more than anything else in the world. But life happened and any plans I had to continue on in a professional manner, got sidelined and I went back to being someone who sings when she wants to and, if everyone’s drunk at a party, when asked. (Or when my mom asks, because how do I tell my mama no? ::grin::)

Aaaaaanyway…

I realized that, while I don’t intend to get back into trying to make a band and music career happen, I’ve never actually put anything down of myself singing in a way I’ve been 100% happy with. I’m on other people’s recordings and I even have a few tracks I’ve written that were recorded, but nothing that’s been produced on the level that I would like.

So I made a plan for 2014 and my EP project was born. My plan is to record 4 or 5 songs, both covers and originals, and do it in a studio with full production, mixing and mastering. I want to see what I would sound like properly produced and with all the bells and whistles.

Additionally, I’ve been asked over the years by people who hear me sing if I have a recording and I don’t, so this would allow me to have that.

But that’ll take money that I don’t have, so here’s my question.

Do I look to crowdsource it through Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or is there another site I should look into? And, what “rewards” other than a CD would even be feasible?

In the end, I’m going to need to ask people for help and money to make this happen. I’d like to make sure I do it in a way that allows people to contribute in a way that works for them.

Any feedback would be super appreciated ;*

Love,
ggd

  1. Kickstarter is probably your best bet. Consider it presale to some extent. Executive, Producer, Thank You, Etc., as levels. Get someone to film/shoot sessions and you’ve got artwork to add to rewards. If you have a pool of songs you can cover, (clearance yadayada) let Exec/Prod levels vote on inclusion. I think it can work. Then you’ve got Bandcamp to stream/sell on. :D
