I’m going on a writing hiatus — at least professionally — for now. I don’t know for how long. I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I do know it’s time to put a pin in this whole thing for now.

I’ll still be on social media (like you could ever shut me up) so look for me there and May The Force Be With You.

It’s been a quiet month. Life’s still being a bit ornery but I’m working with it as best as I can. The good news is that I have Star Wars and The Mandalorian to keep me entertained and that’s always a good thing.

In the last month, Hypable’s been keeping me busy. I wrote a book review for Resistance Reborn by Rebecca Roanhorse (loved it), I went to the press day for The Mandalorian and had a chance to sit down with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau along with Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers, and Gina Carano. Everyone was incredibly kind and so enthused about the product. It was a rare opportunity and not one I’ll soon forget.

I also reviewed Frozen 2 and, yeah. You should see it.

Finally, for those of you who know about my Call Me By Your Name fixation, you’ll be interested to know I reviewed Andre Aciman’s Find Me. My thoughts are mixed but mostly positive. But I’d say read it for yourself to get a better feel.

On the social side, I live-tweeted Ready Or Not and I heartily recommend it.

Y’know, the world right now is kind of a dumpster fire but I’m glad we have things to keep us entertained. A little diversion helps soothe the mind for the fights to come. I’m trying to keep that balance in mind.

Looking forward to The Rise of Skywalker, so stay tuned for news on that.

Lucky for me, my editor at Hypable is kind and the universe has sent me things to write about so yay.

In other news, I’ve just finished reading Rebecca Roanhorse’s Resistance Reborn (working on a review) and I have some writing to do about The Mandalorian. So stay tuned for those.

Actually, I’d be fine with November because that’s when The Mandalorian arrives on Disney+ (Yes, I got the three-year subscription deal from D23 because DEAL) but it’s still a ways to go and my Star Wars is so close I can feel it.

In other news, my body hates me these days but I soldier on. Aging is strange. I’ll be 51 this month. I’m both shocked and excited.

Writing wise, it’s been a little quiet but I covered D23 for Hypable and wrong about The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance (OMG I LOVE HUP).

Mostly, it’s been about taking care of home life over here. Lots of appts to go to and docs to see. But the world is a crazy place right now so I don’t mind the quiet.

When it comes to the Star Wars movies, people generally fall into two different camps: loving the original trilogy and hating the prequels, or accepting all six films. In the first camp, many feel that the prequels were substandard, for a number of reasons. Some of the divide breaks generationally, but there are multiple explanations—and pretty much any Star Wars fan is happy to give you their thoughts on what they think and why at the drop of a hat.

It’s been a heck of a time. I went and sprained BOTH ankles and my husband landed himself in the hospital for 10 days, so we were a bit busy. That also means that writing-wise, I wasn’t quite as busy. That said, there were a few little bits of writing that made it out there.

I wrote about the second to last episode and finale of The Magicians season 4.

I reviewed Aladdin and Booksmart (I loved it!) of at Hypable and I also got to listen to Alan Menken sing at the Aladdin Global Press Event.

Finally, I wrote about Star Wars Resistance for Slashfilm and why I think you should watch it.

Like I said, it was a busy month. Here’s hoping next month is a little less eventful :-)

First of all, I wrote pieces for both The Verge (my very first movie review) and Atom Tickets. I’m still joyfully recapping/reviewing The Magicians for Hypable AND I’ve been working on two different pieces for Slashfilm so stay tuned.

In other news, I’m still doing my CMBYN project.

Mostly, I’m thankful for the little bright spots during the day. I’m working hard to keep learning every day. And I’m going to Italy ever night. Like ya do.

So, I’m back on the sparklepony.

I have 3 new reviews for The Magicians up and, while it may not be a ton of new work, I also managed to hurt my back in such a way that I walk canted to the left. My right hip is actually higher than my left. Fun!

In other news, I saw a screening of Captain Marvel (so keep an eye out for my review on that) and I watched the Lorena Bobbitt documentary which both hurt my heart and taught me some new things. The case went on in the background for me, so it was good to learn more and have a better understanding of the actual people involved.

The CMBYN project continues. In fact, I was listening to the audiobook on my way to the chiropractor today. (Fun fact: the appointment’s tomorrow. I goofed. So I get to do it again!)

There are days I question my life choices and then I have days where I feel so blessed to be able to do what I do. I guess that’s life, right?

For now, it’s time for me to go work on some work. Y’all play nice.

First and foremost, I interviewed Sera Gamble about The Magicians season 4 and somehow managed not to fangirl all over her. I’m proud of myself for that.

I’ve been binge watching The Punisher. Started with season 1 and I’m up to ep. 6 of S2. Overall, I’m enjoying it. I also watched Polar which I actually enjoyed (YMMV). Finally saw Birth Of A Nation.

My Call Me By Your Name project seems to still be in full force even if it did start as an accident. The CMBYN project has reached Day 67. As for what it is, here’s the basic skinny.

I watched Call Me By Your Name for the first time on November 23rd of 2018. I was so smitten with it that I watched it again the next day. Then watched with commentary. Then watched the Q & A. Then read the book. Then bought the soundtrack. Then got the audiobook. All of which happened because of the feeling the story gives me. A lushness and a peace and a general sense of wellbeing that I can’t really explain.

Before I knew it, I realized I’d gone seven days in a row interacting with some form of CMBYN and still found myself wanting to do it again. So I’ve just been doing it. No real plan or even a goal. It’s not a “have to”. It’s been a “want to”. Organically. Daily.

I have no idea how long it’ll go on but, for now, I’m just rolling with it. I call it “going to Italy”. We’ll see how long I continue to travel.

I hope y’all are staying out of trouble.

But I promised I’d write and HERE I AM.

The world has been a bit much, but I got to say things about The Magicians over at Hypable. Basically a nice little catch-up and preview of the new season. You can read it here if ya like.

I’m finally reading Sabaa Tahir’s Reaper At The Gates. I don’t know why it took so long I love her books so much. But I’m here now and that’s all that matters.

I’m 60 days into my CMBYN project or whatever it actually is. It shows no sign of stopping. To be honest, I don’t really even know how I got here but 60 days. Interesting.

We had a LOT of rain. I hope we get more. We need it.

I watched Suspiria and enjoyed it. I’ve found myself wondering how a female director would have handled it.

Y’all stay out of trouble. I’ll try and do the same.

Of course, there’s a lot going on inside. These days, there’s a little too much going on in the world and my creative brain has taken a deep dive to avoid paying attention to the things going on in the world that stress me out.

But I’ll say this; I’m doing what I can do amidst it. I’m currently watching (re-watching) the first three episode screeners of The Magicians season 4 for a review for Hypable this month. I can’t tell you much yet, but I love it more than last season and I loved last season.

Netflix and I have been spending quality time together. I’ve watched all of You and Tidying Up with Marie Kondo this week. Plus the first season of Big Mouth, which I adore. I think they should show it in health class.

In other words, life’s being life. I’m doing my best. Someone send me cookies.

I’ve become obsessed with SLOW TV on Netflix.

I’ve recently discovered a new category on Netflix called “SLOW TV” and it’s definitely one of those things I never knew I needed. Videos within this treasure trove of a genre include hours of a crackling fire, a boat ride, even a knitting championship. I’ve recently been taking a 7 hour trip on a train from Oslo to Bergen in Norway and find myself soothed by the clack of the train on the tracks as it traverses the Norwegian countryside. A check of YouTube shows a larger variety; a 10 hour night to Tokyo has definitely gotten my attention. If you’re stressed and need an easy way to unwind, may I suggest you check it out?

And I got a neat package from the folks at SYFY that sets me up nicely for Deadly Class.

Plus, I’ve become obsessed with Marie Kondo. So I’ll be amazed if I don’t end up knee deep in clothes while trying to tidy up sometime this week.

Granted, it’s only Monday. Who knows what sort of trouble I’ll get into. :-)

That said, I figured it would be a good idea to try and starting writing over here again. If only to point people to the writing I’m doing other places.

2018 was a challenge in a lot of ways. Healthwise, my entire household took a hit and we’re still getting back into the swing of things. But everyone’s happy and healthy as we can be and that’s better than it looked when we started this year.

As for writing, I had a busy month over at Hypable writing about Timeless, interviewing both Eric Kripke and Abigail Spencer, and talking about my trip to the set of Marvel’s Runaways.

If you’ve been wondering where the heck I’ve been, now ya know. Here’s hoping 2019 keeps me busy and I wish you a fantastic new year.

I was recently asked to contribute to the new EW Community over at Entertainment Weekly which has been, so far, a really incredible learning experience.

My assignment as part of The Community is to recap Hannibal.

I’ve probably written more words on these recaps than I have in total in a couple months and, while it’s been tough, it’s also been great. I’ve found myself looking at my writing for the first time in a while and really liking it.

I’m also having a delightful time being the twisted individual I am ;-)

So, I hope you’ll drop by and read one or two of them. If you like them, I hope you’ll share.

Either way, I’m loving the opportunity and I’m really glad to see what develops.
