You Can Buy Time With Han Solo In The Shower?

I'm female, I'm a geek. There are two things I can't deny:

1) It literally pains me to watch the Han in Carbonite scene in ESB.

2) I've been dreaming about taking a shower with Han Solo for most of my life.

Enter the perfect solution. Soap in Carbonite from Luxury Lane Soap.

Now I can have my cake (er, soap) and eat (er, wash with it) too?

And, if you had any doubts as to the geek nature of the soap or the maker, read the item description.

"For a limited time I am offering a version of this soap with an Aurek-Besh label."

It's enough to set my Star Wars loving heart into hyperdrive and it's not even the only Star Wars themed soap she makes!

However, as any good geek girl knows, there's more to life than Star Wars. Hence, Zombies, LEGO, Fight Club, Hello Kitty & even Unicorns have been soapified (is that a word?) for your enjoyment. ;-)

This makes me very, very happy.

Michael Bay To Remake "Rosemary's Baby" [Updated]

Rogert Ebert tweeted..."Michael Bay is remaking "Rosemary's Baby. O....kay...." and (to borrow a fave gag from Topless Robot) this happened.

How, by all that is holy, can Michael Bay remake "Rosemary's Baby"?

I've already gone on record predicting a "one hour sex in Hell "'dream sequence' ", but that still leaves a good 60 minutes of time to fill. What's he going to do with that? Where is the ROOM for explosions?

Not to mention, who would he cast? If the reports are true, we're lucky enough to be spared Megan Fox -- but that leaves so many bad casting choices.

Pacino's already played Satan. Nic Cage doing Elvis Satan? And will the baby shoot from Rosemary's belly in a stream of green slime and detonate to blow the world to apocalyptic smithereens?

IMDB news revealed that the idea was scrapped in 2008. So, why can't Michael Bay just let it DIE?

Update: Okay, so I did a bit more digging and found this story by Katey Rich over at Cinema Blend

She confirms the story and, while it turns out the film will be produced by Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes -- currently remaking several horror classics including "Nightmare on Elm Street", she's just as...horrified as I am.

I just don't think it's the kind of horrified Bay was looking for...

A Pretty Magic Card Trick.

If you read the comments on this video of Australian magician James Galea on Ellen, a lot of them want to talk about his this trick is done and so on.

My comment is, watch it. Before you try and dissect it, just watch it. ;-)

I think it's pretty dang cool.

More On The Existence of the Mythical "Geek Girl"

Last month I questioned the existence of the "Geek Girl" as an actual being instead of myth (yes I was being tongue in cheek) and I was amazed at the responses that came in.

To date they number 87, which is far and away the most I've ever seen on the blog -- and they were enlightening on many levels.

In fact, I think I may have found my answer as to why it was that Geek Boys sometimes seem to (very strongly) question the existence or veracity of Geek babes online and off. But I figured I'd check.

Reading the comments, many of the male comments mentioned things like shyness or a feeling of not belonging being a large part of their geek existence, whether currently or growing up. Questions of acceptance, the ability to be expressed freely and feeling comfortable with their geekiness also came up.

On the flipside, you have a bevy of female geeks being very "expressed" both online and off. I realized that my flirtatious nature and outgoing personality are often offered as reasons I'm not a geek girl.

If flirt online and feel comfortable expressing myself at geek functions like SDCC, I'm not really a geek?

Personally, I feel lucky to have found a place to feel comfortable with my geekitude. I can't imagine someone denying my right to that.

So, I figured I'd offer it as a theory and see what other people think...

Cougar Site Burns Us Precious!

There's a website called Cougars & Co. Tagline? "The Hunt Is On".

I don't know what to think about this. It's a social networking site. For, yeah, you guessed it..

"Cougars & Co. getaways are for the cougar or cub in you who needs a little “me” time."

WHAT!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found the story thanks to "if it's hip, it's here" and I'll send you there to read more of the details (you know you want to know)

But I sort of keep looking back at the page. Like one of those highway rubberneckers at an accident scene.

"Cougars" and "cubs".

Can't we just go back to the good old days when we called them "poolboys"

Academy Award Winning Movie Trailer for The Movie at The Festival!

I have another Geek Babe crush.

If you've seen this "Academy Award Winning Movie Trailer" around the Twitters and intarwebs, you know it's both funny and dead on accurate.

But I didn't realize that it's part of a larger marketing effort for "britanick" while they're at SXSW.

Someone go see this for me? ;-) "Eagles Are Turning People Into Horses" at the SXSW Festival in Austin, TX! March 12, 15, & 18.

You Tube User Sabotages Battlestar Galactica

If you're a fan of Battlestar Galactica, you'd love this just because it's awesome.

But if you're a Beastie Boys fan on top of that, prepare to be blown away.

You Tube user katamaran78 has put together a fan vid of epic proportion thats, as he says "Copied almost shot-for-shot from the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" video."

See for yourself ;-)

Much love to @amy_geek for the heads up!

Updated: We got a note from the creator

Thanks for linking my vid. I can't believe how insanely popular it's become.

Felicia Day, See What You Made Me Do?

I've been holding off on doing this for a while. Yeah, I know I went to the mat about the Vanity Fair thing, but this is different. I was really avoiding saying this, because I know it's going to put me in danger of sounding like a fangirl, but I have a feeling it's time and I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and say it.

Felicia Day inspires me.

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking it's the geek girl thing. But, it's not. I mean, okay, she's a geek babe and that's awesome -- but it's not the geek girl in me she inspires.

It's the once struggling actress who gave up and went and got herself a "real job".

By way of history, allow me to explain. I know how the industry works from a lot of different perspectives. I've been an actress, agency assistant, casting assistant, and agent. I've also produced and directed small indy films, as well as doing pretty much every job possible in a theater co-op.

Most actors go about the business in much the same way. Get an agent, get a manager, get pictures, try and get auditions. Take class, work whatever job you can for a flexible schedule and then do whatever you can in that "3 minutes in the room" during an audition to "get the job"

Not Felicia Day.

In a business where most people wait and see, Felicia's out there creating her own work. Instead of waiting for "pilot season" and hoping to get a series, she created "The Guild". She's created a web presence and a Twitter following by getting out and talking to people. By promoting herself and the people she works with.

Syfy announced today that she'll be starring as a werewolf-hunting descendant of Little Red Riding Hood in the new Syfy Saturday Original Movie, Red. (thanks @kiala for the tip)

Starring. That's big, people. On cable or not. Starring is big. I means you have a name in the industry.

She's made that name for herself.

Literally. Ask yourself how you know who Felicia Day is and I'll bet, if you track it back, it's due to something she did.

No one's handed her anything and she doesn't take any of it for granted.

And, through it all, she's managed to be a pretty down to earth and accessible person.

Inspiring.

Dang it. Felicia. Do you have any idea how irritated I am at you right now? ::grin:: I hate getting misty eyed!

Monday Squee: Courtney Gains is Bliss!

I normally squee about toys, but this is something a bit different.

Once upon a time, in an acting class far, far away -- I met a guy named Courtney Gains. Before he was Malachi, and back when he was just a guy I hung out with and played music with.

Well, this little movie called Children of the Corn happened.

From that day on, while he's always been my darling and one of my best friends, he's been a lot more to other people -- an icon, a "that guy", and an actor who's been working for over 20 years.

He's also been a rebel, a musician and an independent filmmaker.

Which is why I think the fact that he's gotten an indy release for Benny Bliss & The Disciples of Greatness is squee-worthy.

Plus, I think the website is pretty sweet ;-)

Nice job, bebe. Love ya.

The Los Angeles Times Doesn't Hate Geek Girls?

Some of you remember the great SDCC Geek Girl Uprising of 2009.

You have scars to prove you were part of the battle --  blog posts, twitter feeds, drinks tossed back with other geek girls (and guys) in memory of the fight.

We remember well the enemy's name.

The Los Angeles Times: Girl's Guide to Comic Con 2009

I'm not even going to go into the reaction. If you were there, you know. If you weren't, a Google search of  "LA Times, Girls Guide, comic con" will pull up pretty much anything you need to know on the entire issue.

I'm just giving you the background so I can say what I'm about to say.

I'm known for being impulsive and a bit cheeky (moi?), so I don't think it'd surprise you that I hopped on over to The Hero Complex blog and dropped a note to Geoff Boucher (aka the editor of the blog does all thinks geek at the Times) asking if he'd like some actual Geek Girl feedback for a 2010 Girl's Guide to SDCC.

What may surprise you is the response I got.

Turns out, Geoff Boucher isn't the enemy at all. In fact, he's just like most geek boys I know. Funny, smart, a bit self effacing...

...and he was just as bugged by the Guide as we were!

Not to mention, between the time I wrote him and this morning, a lot has happened and all of it is entirely Geek Girl (and overall geek) friendly. I can't tell you about all of it yet, but it's awesome and it's totally Geek positive.

So, all of that said. I suggest we officially call him an ally and welcome him as a fellow Geek. ;-)

Here's the blog: The Hero Complex. Toss it in your reader. I think you'll dig it.

::wink:: Do it for me?

And can I ask the Geek babes to spread the word on this? We did such a good job when he was a bad guy, I'd like to be able to set the record straight. ;-)

(p.s. I'll see what I can do about the "fanboy" thing in the title, but one battle at a time ;p)

Updated: It seems that the L.A. Times didn't even create the slideshow. They just linked to one made by Zap2it.com. The guide Hero Complex did was informative and it was even written by a gal.

Monday Squee: Turn On Your ARC Light...

You may have seen it on Fashionably Geek or some other cool tech site recently, but that doesn't mean I don't get to squee about it too. ;-)

Besides, who else is going to make the Neil Diamond/ET song reference? (Heh. I have now killed your brain. I am content.)

...in the middle of a young boy's dream.~
